About Gotham Bar & Grill:
When Gotham Bar & Grill opened its doors in Greenwich Village – in 1984 – it hoped that NYC diners would enjoy the beauty and energy of the space. Gotham Bar & Grill took residence on a tree-lined street in one of NYC’s most vibrant neighborhoods, bringing a dining setting to New York that had the feel of a Parisian brasserie. Quickly, Gotham Bar & Grill became one of the top Manhattan Restaurants.
From the beginning, Gotham Bar & Grill set out to be lively – breaking from tradition in NYC, which somewhat dictated that a refined eatery should be subdued and exclusive. Gotham Bar & Grill challenged that trend. They opted for approachable and inclusive. They filled a void in NYC and became an immediate Downtown sensation.
A year after Gotham Bar & Grill opened, the NYC eatery upgraded its already-superb menu by presenting offerings from their new, talented, young, and unknown chef – Alfred Portale. Portale improved the Manhattan Restaurant’s cuisine by infusing it with freshness, uniqueness, and inspiration.
Gotham Bar & Grill has received 5 3-star ratings from The New York Times - a distinction that has not been achieved by any other Manhattan Restaurant. In 2009, New York Magazine named Gotham Bar & Grill one of the most important Manhattan Restaurants of the past 40 years, and since 2005, Gotham Bar & Grill has maintained a 1-star Michelin rating.
