About Times Square New Year’s Eve Celebration:
If you’re going to ring in the New Year in NYC then you’ll find plenty of ways to celebrate. None, however, are as popular or iconic as the Times Square New Year’s Eve Celebration. This NYC Event is the most well-known New Year’s Eve party in the world. If you’re looking for NY Activities to say hello to 2017 then head to Times Square!
The crowd will begin to assemble in Times Square at about 3 p.m. The festivities include celebrity performances, and fun features like the First Kiss of the New Year. Another highlight is the First Couple of 2017. A couple, winners of a search by Generation Tux, will be married on stage as the clock strikes midnight.
More than 1 million people will be in Times Square for these and other exciting NY Activities, and millions more will watch the fun on TV sets all over the world. Many remember turning on the TV to watch the iconic ball drop, but there is nothing like being there in person. You’ll want to get there early to get a good view of the stage.
Of course the main event is the ball drop at midnight. Since 1907, minus a couple of years during World War II, the New Year has been celebrated in Times Square with a ball drop. The ball itself has undergone a few transformations over the years. The current ball weighs in at an impressive 11,875 pounds and is covered in Waterford crystals. As the clock strikes midnight, about a ton of confetti will be dropped on the revelers. Whether you drop by just to check things out or stay to party all night long, this is an exciting NY Activity for New Year’s Eve.
Keep in mind that public drinking is not allowed in New York City, and it will not be tolerated. There are, however, a number of bars in Times Square where you can enjoy a drink before heading back outside to the celebration.
