About the New York City Fire Museum:
The New York City Fire Museum is housed inside of an historic firehouse. The building was completed in 1904, and is a beautiful example of Beaux Arts style architecture. The permanent collection of this Museum includes more than 10,000 objects dating from the late 18th century.
Visitors to this NYC Attraction will see fire carts and trucks, badges, helmet, firefighting equipment and much more. While some of the Museum’s pieces are not to be touched, there are others that are completely hands-on. Young visitors are thrilled with the chance to get dressed up like firemen.
In addition to the Museum’s impressive permanent collection, this New York Attraction also hosts several temporary exhibits each year. Providing fire safety education is another important mission of the Museum, and an apartment that can be filled with fake smoke is used to teach children about fire safety.
A permanent memorial has been set up in the New York City Fire Museum to honor the lives of the 343 NYC firefighters who were lost on September 11, 2001. This memorial includes items that were recovered at Ground Zero.
The New York City Fire Museum is a place that the entire family will enjoy. Consider adding this Museum to your list of can’t-miss NYC Attractions during your next stay at an NYC Hotel.
